Rebecca Gruby (she/her) is the Robert K. Johnson Professor of Marine Conservation in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, and the founding Director of the Robert K. Johnson Center for Marine Conservation. Dr. Gruby is a social scientist with interdisciplinary training in environmental governance. Her lab, the Ocean Governance Collaborative, seeks to identify transformations in marine governance that can advance ocean sustainability and human well-being.  Dr. Gruby has worked on a wide range of issues from local to global scales, including marine protected areas, small-scale fisheries, the blue economy, and ocean philanthropy. Dr. Gruby holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Conservation from the University of Florida (2006), and a PhD from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University (2013).  She was an Associate Professor at Colorado State University prior to joining the University of Miami in 2023.
