Rosenstiel School Programs

The University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School is a global leader in marine conservation education at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Our undergraduate program has several majors relating to marine conservation, especially Marine Biology and Ecology, Oceanography, Marine Affairs, and Marine Science. Depending on the major, students can earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S), a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Atmospheric Science (B.S.M.A.S), or a Bachelor of Arts in Marine Affairs. Students pursuing these majors have opportunities to take a diverse variety of courses and acquire a wide range of skills related to conservation and management, including study abroad programs and field courses such as UGalapagos.

The Rosenstiel School also has three graduate programs for students interested in marine conservation. Students interested in academic research can apply to join one of many laboratories focused on conservation topics where they collaborate closely with faculty to conduct interdisciplinary research for a Master of Science (M.S.) or a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree. The Rosenstiel School also offers a Master of Professional Science (M.P.S.) degree, which is an innovative pre-professional degree program which allows students to acquire advanced training in marine science and conservation in preparation for careers in industry, government, and non-profit organizations. Conservation-relevant MPS tracks include Marine Conservation, Marine Mammal Science, Tropical Marine Ecosystem Management, Fisheries Management and Conservation, Exploration Science, Coastal Zone Management, and Climate and Society.

Both undergraduate and graduate programs are designed to help train well-rounded students with the knowledge and practical skills to address emerging environmental issues and improve conservation and management practices.
